The Art of Dyeing Easter Eggs Has been Mastered

On April 1st I decided that it was too nice of a day not to go to the zoo. After Andy's morning nap we packed up and headed over. We went to the Children's Zoo in the Bronx Zoo for the first time and Andy loved it. I put his monkey backpack on him (AKA leash) and let him walk around and crawl through fake tree trunks and turtle shells. He enjoyed his new found freedom on a leash and doesn't mind when I put it on him anymore.

That evening we also had some friends over for dinner and dyeing Easter eggs. I wasn't sure how Andy would do but he caught on quickly to the procedure. He learned that the white egg is dropped into the cup, that hands are the easiest way to pull the egg out of the colored water, tummies are a great place to wipe off your hands, colored finger prints really add to the decor of an egg, the outside shell of a colored egg does not taste as good as it looks, and that the colored water, though pretty, also does not taste like candy due to the vinegar that mom added to make the colors brighter. Andy is very serious about his egg dyeing as you can see from the pictures but his squeals of joy let us know he enjoyed every minute! It was so fun to watch him. Maybe we will have to do this again just for the fun of it.

P.S. In the pictures where I am holding his arm, I am not guiding him or trying to stop him from doing anything. I actually was just being a paranoid mom and had my hand loosely on his arm in case he fell off the chair. He did just fine and didn't fall off once even when I wasn't holding him. ;)

Grandma Debbie and GG's Visit

***Warning: This is another one of my "long posts" as Patrick calls them, feel free to just look at the pictures or skip it completely.***

Alright these first two Picture were taken a couple of days before my Mom and Grandma arrived, but I love the two men in my life and I thought these were too cute not to post.

My Mom and Grandma Joey arrived on the 18th of March. They arrived on a Saturday morning after taking a red eye flight. While they rested I went to our Stake Women's Conference for church, which was wonderful, I am so glad I went. When I got home we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and walk up to Emilio's for a slice of pizza. I was fighting a cold and by Sunday it won. I had lost my voice completely and the only noises I could make were squeaks. Mom and Grandma were still tired from their flight and slept until 11am! (To give them the benefit of the doubt it was 9am California time, and we stayed up late the night before.) Monday we tried to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but it is closed on Mondays, why I didn't think to check it's hours is beyond me. While we decided what to do next we ate at a little cafe in a church called Heavenly Cafe, it was good. Andy drank his milk and enjoyed making new friends in the cafe. We ended up going to the Guggenheim Museum. Andy tried out the acoustics in the Great hall where we bought our tickets. He was tired by this point but managed to make it another hour or so. He slept a little on the way home and was refreshed and ready to play in the puddles when we got back to the apartment. He had a great time posing for our photos.

On Tuesday we met Patrick in Manhattan for lunch and to see his Manhattan apartment. It was his last day of his 8 week surgery rotation, so he moved home. It was a good day.

On Wednesday my friend Jana watched Andy so Mom, Grandma and I could go see the Lion King on Broadway. All I can say is WOW! The costumes were absolutely spectacular. Who knew there are so many talented people in this world. If you haven't seen it, it is definitely worth the cost of the ticket. After the show we checked out Toys R Us. Patrick had picked Andy up and put him to bed by the time we got home. It was fun spending time with my mom and Grandma. Thanks Jana and Patrick!

The Barbie picture is specifically for my neice Kali.

Thursday we visited Ground Zero and had dinner. Patrick took Andy for the evening so that he could get to bed on time.

Friday we played with the parachute, Andy loved having more people to play with. When Patrick finished his test and haircut we hopped in the car and Drove to D.C. Andy is a good traveler. Except for ten minutes before we got to the Navy Lodge he vomited all over himself. We promptly stopped but since we were so close to the Lodge and had nothing to clean him up with we rolled down the windows and proceeded forward with urgency. We held a blanket over Andy who was very wet at this point and getting cold because the windows were down. When we pulled up to a gate the soldier took Patrick's ID, we must of looked suspicious holding up the blanket, because he tried to peek in through Pat window, but once he got a sniff of our potent car he quickly pulled his head out with discuss, told us where the Lodge was and waved us on. Patrick enjoyed being saluted and called Sir. In the parking lot we striped Andy down to his diaper, tossed his clothes in a bag, wrapped him up in a blanket and carried him into the Lodge. Once in we were is our room I gave him in a warm bath while Patrick cleaned out his car seat. Thank goodness for a good husband/father who is willing to clean up the vomit from the car seat. Andy enjoyed his bath and went to bed shortly thereafter.

Saturday we got up went to D.C. By the time we got there and found parking it was lunch time. We ate at Baja Fresh then walked to the White House. Then we met up with Phil, Erin, Olivia, Sam, Owen and Erin's Dad at the Washington Monument where the Kite Festival was taking place. Patrick was anxious to fly his kite that we bought in North Carolina last summer. He flew it a little but became concerned that he might hit someone so he put it away. Andy was off kite exploring the second we let him out of his stroller. Grandma Debbie happily followed him and feed him ice as he walked around admiring all the kites. Andy enjoyed wrestling with Sam and flying Olivia's horse kite.

Phil and Erin's crew went home and we continued to walk the MALL. We walked by the Reflecting Pond and saw the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the World War II Memorial. By then Andy was done so we headed to Phil and Erin's for dinner.

Aren't my mom and grandma beautiful!!

Patrick and Andy were both done!

Sunday we were privileged to witness Owen's baby blessing. It is nice to be able to participate in special day's like this with family. After the blessing we went back to the Lodge and checked out. Then we visited The Arlington Cemetery before going to Phil and Erin's again.

Monday, we took it easy. We cleaned, did laundry, and went shopping. Tuesday we visited the Metropolitan Museum Art. I didn't get any pictures taken, but my grandma did so when she sends them to me I will post them. Wednesday Mom and Grandma prepared to leave. Andrew enjoyed playing pull toys with his Grandma Debbie. My friend Crystal also came over with her three kids. The kids all had a great time playing together while the adults talked.

One of the down falls of having my mom and grandma visit is that I remember how much I love and enjoy their company and then they eventually have to return to their own homes, leaving me missing them even more then I did before they came. Andrew misses waking them both up bright and early and watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with his Grandma's. It was a fun visit and I am glad they came.

I love you both very much! Thanks for visting us! Come again soon!!!
