The Rest of July

After the family reunion my sister Leta talked me into staying in Sacramento for a week. So, I sent Patrick back to work and we played with cousins for a whole week. Here goes another long catch up post.

The kids had a blast in the pool

Andy without floaties.

and Lizzie did what she does best... Sleep.

This was another day of swimming with cousins and friends.

The 3 year olds...this was the only picture with all of them smiling. This was after a whole day of swimming and we had some cranky kids. (Especially my little Andrew.)
After swimming all day I figured Andy would be all tuckered out and ready to sleep all the way home, but as we were making final preparation to leave...AKA cleaning up the toys, my little munchkin decided it would be fun to spin around in circles. Inevitably he fell and bumped his head on the glass coffee table. My sister Malissa picked him up and handed him to me and explained to me what had happened. He was holding his head and I was rocking him. I was trying to coax him to let me see his forhead but he was screaming. I even used the "Okay, I know your hurt but you have to the count of ten to stop crying." I was counting and pulled him away from me when I noticed the blood oozing down the side of his face. This normally calm mother did the only thing she could think of... Scream "MOM...MOM" as I ran carrying him to the other room to find my own mother. We finally got Andy to remove his hand to find that he had a nice split about the size of a Quarter. We got a wet rag wash him up and bandaged him up. Then I took him to the Urgent Care Center near by. We waited, Andy was terrified of going to the Doctor because he over heard us talking about stitches. He kept saying "I hate doctors" (hmmm... I wonder where he gets that from).  We went from one ordeal to the next, first taking off the band-aide to show the doctor, then I had to lay on him and hold him down while a nurse held his head and the doctor injected the anesthetic in the area around the wound. Cleaning wasn't so bad but then they had to re-inject the anesthetic unfortunately this time Andy knew what was happening and fought having the needle stuck into his skin again. He jerk while the needle was in, reopening the wound which started to bleed. The fresh blood had to be cleaned up, meanwhile a stronger anesthetic and a smaller needle was located and prepared, this round of injections worked. I still had to lay on him and hold him arms and legs pretty tight while the doctor put in the stitches. By the third stitches he was so exhausted that he fell asleep. We still had to hold him but the doctor was able to get in three more stitches. I think she was glad of this because I told her my husband was a surgeon and she wanted to make sure her work would be approved. Needless to say we did not leave for home that night, we were all tuckered out. Here are some photos taken after we got back to San Diego.

A few random photos as I try to take photos more of Lizzie since Andy probably has over 10,000 photos of himself.

My Aunt Suzy and Cousin Sammie stop by for a visit. It was fabulous to see them. Suzy is such a wonderful Aunt I love that she stopped by to hold Lizzie during her and Sammie's vacation. It was so good to see them. I usually remember Sammie as a baby herself but now she is a beautiful woman. (7/23)

Andy loves to hold his sister...
Lizzie enjoys being held by her brother most times....
but she does have her limits.

I probably should make this a post all on its own but it wraps up July and this is me trying to keep a family journal. Andy has been into treasure maps so Pat printed him up a treasure map and let Andy lead him around one day. He thought it would be just around the yard but Andy took him to the hill/field across from our house. So Pat decided to make Andy a treasure box and hide it on that hill. He went to Micheals and bought all the supplies. Painted it and filled it with treasure and buried it.

We got home from church and had dinner and we were about to head out when Uncle Phil called. Pat talked to Phil for a bit. As he got off the phone he noticed Andy had fallen asleep waiting. We tried to wake him but it was not possible. So we put him to bed and Pat retrieved the treasure. (7/29)
The next day when Patrick returned home from work he quickly reburied the treasure box and we printed up a map. Andy lead the way retracing his steps from their first outing.

He was pretty excited to actually find an X this time, and that he had remembered his shovel to dig with.

This is Andy saying"YES!" when he saw the treasure inside the box.

Andy explaining that it was left there by Captain Hook.

Lizzie's two month picture. Isn't she beautiful!

Before bed photo shoots are not Lizzie's thing.

Now July is mostly recorded.

The stitches sound like such an ordeal! He will hate doctors forever now, I'm sure!! Good luck with that... :)

I love that Pat made that treasure box all himself. Your kids are so lucky to have such great, fun parents!
